Budget proposal expected as Fairfield enters late-February milestone
Town leadership is approaching the scheduled release window for the FY2027 spending plan.
Why it matters:
The release of the proposed budget marks the transition from preparation to formal review by the Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance.
Town materials indicate that the proposed FY2027 budget is expected in late February 2026, positioning the town for the first formal review by the Board of Selectmen in the coming weeks.
The First Selectperson is responsible for transmitting the proposal to the Selectmen. From there, the budget advances to the Board of Finance and ultimately to the Representative Town Meeting before final adoption.
This year’s budget cycle follows Fairfield’s 2025 revaluation. Once the grand list is finalized after appeal hearings, the Board of Finance will calculate a mill rate that applies to updated assessments.
As of 2026-02-25, no formal budget vote has occurred. The next visible milestone will be the public release of the proposed spending plan and the scheduling of hearings.
For residents, the significance lies in timing. Once the proposal is filed, deliberations move from general expectations to line-item review.
