Games played March 12–March 19, 2026
Postseason brackets are now determining outcomes rather than shaping them. In Fairfield, one program advanced to a state final, while Fairfield University’s spring teams opened conference play with results that begin to define early standings.
Fairfield Prep moved into the CIAC Division I boys hockey championship with a 2–1 win over Darien on March 18. The margin held at one goal throughout and turned in the final minute, when Connor Driscoll scored the game-winner. Goaltender Chris Carr recorded 27 saves. The result places Prep in the March 23 final against New Canaan, with the program now one win from a state title.
Boys Basketball
Notre Dame Prep’s season ended in the CIAC Division I semifinals with a 67–61 loss to Staples on March 16. Josh Charlot finished with 18 points and five assists, and Jameer Reed added 17 points and 11 rebounds. The game narrowed in the fourth quarter, but the early deficit remained intact at the final horn.
Boys Hockey
Fairfield Prep’s semifinal result stands as the only verified boys hockey contest involving a Fairfield program within this window and carries direct championship implications.
At the college level, conference positioning now shifts to spring sports, where early MAAC results begin to establish separation.
Baseball
Fairfield opened MAAC play with a three-game sweep of Manhattan from March 13 to March 15, then lost 5–3 to Hofstra on March 18. In the series opener, Matthew Bucciero hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and Ben Alekson earned the win over 6.1 innings. The sweep moved Fairfield to 4–2 in MAAC play before the Hofstra result set the overall record at 6–10.
Softball
Fairfield swept Merrimack on March 14 and March 15 by scores of 8–2, 12–0, and 13–4. Peyton Shields earned the win in the series finale, and the offense produced 12 hits in that game. The sweep moved Fairfield to 3–2 in MAAC play. Army then defeated Fairfield 2–1 in eight innings on March 18, leaving the Stags at 7–14 overall.
Men’s Lacrosse
Fairfield opened conference play with a 29–8 win over Hampton on March 14. Will Consoli recorded six points, and Justin Brown scored four goals. The scoring margin was established in the second quarter, where Fairfield created separation that held through the remainder of the game.
Women’s Basketball
Fairfield did not play during this window. On March 15, the Stags received an at-large NCAA Tournament bid as an 11-seed and will face Notre Dame on March 21.
